Diablo III confirmed for console – PS3 most likely
Blizzard community manager, Micah Whiple let a big announcement slip via Twitter recently. While it may have been unintentional, the cat is now out of the bag as the console development of Diablo III has been confirmed.
Blizzard has been working on Diablo III forever and the game appears to be shaping up quite nicely. Rumors of a console port has been flying around the Web for some time with even a mysterious job posting by Blizzard looking for a PS3 developer a few months back.
The posting read:
This position is responsible for overseeing PlayStation 3 (PS3) architecture design as well as other PS3-specific game code development to maximise platform performance.
When Whiple was asked via Twitter if Diablo III would be coming to consoles, he reposed by tweeting:
Yup. Josh Mosqueira is lead designer for the Diablo console project.
(That tweet has been since removed from the page.)
The biggest obstacle with Diablo III coming to consoles is the game’s ambitious game store or marketplace. This is a big feature in the game as it allows gamers to buy and sell special items. Recently, Dust 514’s CCP revealed that Sony has allowed them to open up their own store front over PSN.
Companies like Microsoft have been adamant at keeping the Xbox 360 a closed box, refusing to let Valve put Steam services in Portal 2. Could this be a hindrance in Diablo III coming to the Xbox 360 or at least a gimped version? It will be interesting to see when Blizzard is planning to make the big announcement.

I just hope my PC will run Diablo 3 lol. I will probably just need to update my video card and I will be fine lol. I waited awhile to get Starcraft 2 but no way im waiting to get DIablo 3. That will be release date for me

Lol, I suggest you read or re-read the post. The game was slated for PC release only before this post. It very well may stay that way, nothing offical has been announced in regard to a console version. So this game is and in no way will be a console exclusive!

I don’t think I was clear in post Kushy, I meant it will be exclusive to one console and not the others. The same way Gears is exclusive to one console but is in no way an exclusive, it’s a single console exclusive.

That marketplace feature makes the game sound ps3 exclusive. I agree OS. Relax Kushy. The game was always coming to PC.
Although. I’m still waiting to see what rabbit valve pulls out of their hat now that Sony agreed to steamworks.

regardless of M&K support I am sure a lot of Diablo fans would rather play it on PC. Though 1 thing is for certain, a console version would open up the world of Diablo to a new set of gamers that might not play it otherwise.

They should support M+K in more games though. UT3 is the only one I can recall.
At the very least support Move which is at least better than a controller in some respects when dealing with games made for M+K.

I wish I can still find that article (either joystiq or kotaku) from Microsoft stating that games that appear on the PC also hurt the 360. It was the reason why gears 2 was 360 only.

Well the guys at Blizzard had Starcraft 2 working with move at one point. I could see SC2 playing better than D3 with the move though. I’d like something a bit more hands on for D3 though.

Well thats kinda weird…
I was reading some stuff about FFXIII-2 and I found out the story has some serious ties into time traveling and has multiple endings that are appearently affected by what you do in time travel…
That raised an eyebrow. I’m getting the game and can’t wait to see just what is in store.

Mac for PC games = poor ports that run half as good on equal hardware…think poor ps3 ports of 360 games but 10x worse… you dont buy a mac if your gonna game…how much effort are developers going to put to cater to 8% of the market.. (windows is 92+% while mac is~8% of the market) look how they handle ports on systems that have near equal marketshare…

Thats not really the case with Blizzard. I had an old imac and I used to play Starcraft, Warcraft 2 + 3 on it back in the day.
Even Steam is doing a pretty good job on porting games to mac now.
I still wouldn’t buy a mac though. I learned my lesson when I paid $1,500 for a paperweight and couldn’t do as much with it. If i would have bought a pc my money would have gone farther.

Play starcraft 2, WC 2 and 3 on a same spec’d pc and it will run twice as good…and it is in the case of Blizzard as my example is based on how WoW runs equal machines, it will run “50% better” on a PC than Mac…this was back in the 40man MC/BWL runs and i distinctly remember the patch notes stating they were working on a mac version but because it runs 50% slower on equal machines itd be awhile…or somethingbalong those lines but it was in their own patch notes…id have to go back and check years worth but its there

LMFAO yeah I know. I will do that or wait for a ps3 demo to see how it goes on the controller. I don’t see how they plan to make it work(without move anyway).
I’m getting the MBP to start iOS development and the new iBooks. I plan to make some cool shit and make some cash.

I imagine that if D3 does make it to PS3 it will either support keyboard and mouse or the controller will be solid enough to play with.
Diablo 1 was also released on PS1 years ago and it wasn’t too bad. It naturally wasn’t as smooth as a mouse but it worked. Big difference between then and now is the addition of the analog sticks.

I believe its an ios /mobo configuration issue?? Im not exactly sure why dual booting wouldnt work, but asnfar as reading on the forums or whatnot, ive yet ro see someone post that dual booting is a viable option
Dont get me wrong, im sure gaming on the mac is good, its just always gonna have that stigma of it being a port….i myself am getting the core i5 mac 13.3″ macbook….but i do go into knowing gaming on the thing is not its strength nor my priority..its gonna be my media/school/work lappy

Yeah, I’m not really getting it for games anyway. PS3 and vita is plenty. Plus I still have my gaming desktop and 17″ HP laptop, PSP, DSi, IPod touch, iPad 2, iPhone and Xperia play.

There’s your bottleneck. It will run like shit on any laptop when compared against a proper PC
my old Athlon 2ghz with 1 GB RAM and 512 meg AGP Radeon1950 rig still trashes most so called gaming laptops.
