Insomniac says goodbye to Resistance franchise on the PS3
Fans of the PS3 franchise, Resistance will be sad to hear that Insomniac will no longer be working on the series. After working on the franchise for half a decade, the studio will be calling it quits on the series to focus on its next big title.
The Resistance franchise started out with a bang with the first game going on to sell over 4 million units. The second one was critically acclaimed with a Metacritic score of 87 and went on to sell over 3 million copies worldwide.
Unfortunately Resistance 3 sold far less at retailers than the previous game, despite receiving high praise from various media outlets for its new take on a grittier and darker game.
While the game is very good, the title did go up against Deus Ex, Dead Island and Battlefield 3, which all came out within weeks, if not days of each other.
While sales cannibalization is the most likely the reason for poor performance, I suspect franchise fatigue may also be starting to set in as well.
In an interview with VG247, Insomniac CEO Ted Price stated, “We won’t be making any more Resistances.” Previously, Insomniac revealed that the studio was satisfied with its trilogy as it tells the story the developer set out to tell.
Insomniac will be focusing on its new multiplatform game, Overstrike which will be published by EA. The studio is also expanding its market base by attacking social gaming with its new division, Insomniac Click.
While Insomniac may be done with the Resistance franchise, Nihilistic Software is hard at work on Resistance: Burning Skies, set for a summer 2012 release on the PS Vita.

Hey Roca, looks like you’ll have to spend even more money per month if you want to tether your vita like you were talking about:
“It should be noted that only the $45 and $50 plans allow tethering.”
http://mobile.blorge.com/2012/01/19/att-launches-new-data-plans/
I remember paying ~$75-$100/mo for my smartphone w/voice, data, etc.
Now I pay only ~$7-$10/mo for my prepaid and use Skype free for most calls. It’s just not worth $1000+/yr for me to have a smartphone. I’d much rather pay a tenth of that cost for what I need when I need it.

I guess I’m partially at fault. I still never got around to resistance 3. Damn backlog, and damn you Sony for releasing too many exclusives.
January 27th, 2012
@Carl
I’ve been tethering (to my Tablet, iTouch, etc) since the summer for free.
You don’t need to be on an AT&T plan to tether, the Wifi Vita can pick up any wifi (tether) signal.
My data plan cost $30 (unlimited web + text) and it includes 5GB of 4G tethering — if I go over 5GB, I still can tether by at 2G speed instead (I’ve never gone over)

Canada needs better fucking plans.
OT: resistance is fucking awesome. Sad to see it go but looking forward to seeing what new IPs come out.
January 27th, 2012
Resistance is not going anywhere. Insomniac won’t be making any Resistance game but Sony still owns the IP
Resistance: Burning Skies is coming out on the Vita later this year and is being developed by a 2nd party studio
My guess is that Resistance will be Vita game going forward…Similar to what happened to Syphon Filter and Valkyria Chronicles

Resistances problem was it’s too disjointed. While I haven’t played 3 yet, from what I can tell from the first two they’re two very different games. I can’t see putting the game in others hands improving that much.

“Resistances problem was it’s too disjointed”
You’re 100% correct Phranc
Even the box art of all 3 games are very different from each other.
Resistance needed to be more consistent with it’s story, character, look&feel, gameplay (1 & 2 play like two different games), characters, supporting character (two supporting character from 1 were never seen again), etc

Get on Wind Mobile or Mobilicity. I jumped on the Holiday Miracle plan from Wind and it’s unlimited everything for $40 no contract. Even call to the USA are included. Said goodbuy to Telus but I will admit that Telus service is much better then Wind. It’s a compromise but it’s not that much of a compromise to matter. Wind service is pretty good and hopefully it will get better.

I have a wind phone that I leave at my place for the kids to use.
It uses the rogers network so I just got a sim and put it in my Xperia play phone. We only had the two cell phones and when someone is watching the kids we leave one there. Now the kids are getting to the talking on the phone to friends age I got the third line. I’m going to buy a house phone that will connect to that cell phone via bluetooth. This will make it transparent to guests.
Unfortunatly i’m stuck with Rogers for two more years. (damn Sony and the shitty Xplay).
After that I will have a look to see what my options are.

Twisted Metal multiplayer trailer comes out in 4 days
January 27th, 2012
Yeah I agree with you guys, “disjointed” is a good way to put it. I only played the first two. They were really fun, but had some faults.
-The first one had an awesome story and dialog. Multiplayer was ok, but nothing too amazing.
-The second one had a really disappointing story, but awesome multiplayer.
Never checked out 3 because there were just too many amazing games in 2011. I might check it out at some point.

And by the way, where does Canada get all of these strange names? Ottawa, Saskatoon, Nunavut, Yukon Territory (reminds me of Paul Bunyan and the Blue Ox), Yellowknife, lol. It’s sounds weird but cool at the same time.
It would be nice if Canada unites with US and becomes the United Canadian States of North America. Now that’s “fahkin” awesome.

I knew Resistance was through after the first game. The first one was good and adventurous in it
s time but the series is aged now. Until they release a demo for Resistance 2 I will never purchase that game, ever!

Wasn’t Resistance 3 supposed to require a PSN pass for online play? Was it also $10 like with UC3?
January 28th, 2012
“With online passes proving dismayingly popular despite inconveniencing customers and devaluing an important part of the industry, it’s hardly surprising that more greedy publishers want to horn in on the racket… Though Sony is yet to comment, it is heavily speculated that this pass will operate exactly like the online pass models adopted by Electronic Arts and THQ.
If so, then f*ck ‘em for being wankers. ”

@TFOS
Many of these names are Native in nature, as in Native Indian. The name of the country (Canada) itself is of Native orgins.

No thanks, your health care sucks and your government pretty much wants to run the world!

Kushy,
I know I was just being funny that’s all. I’m part Cherokee and Sioux…I guess that’s why I have such a deep interest in Canada. To me it seems more peaceful, enriching, and relaxing up there. When I visited 10 years ago there wasn’t a person who walked by without saying hello….but here in America? HA! lol…
Kushy you should come down here to the states and see how pissy urban folks get over “healthcare reform.” It’s a shame really….no one seems to care for the other person here.
I thank God that I’m not evil and hateful like that…we aaaaall neeeeed somebody to leeeeeeean ooooon.
lol

“$30 (unlimited web + text) and it includes 5GB of 4G tethering… T-Mobile”
From looking at their site it still winds up being $80/mo (~$1000/yr) with their lowest individual bundle plan of 500 minutes… if you already have one of their phones. For the same amount of data alone they charge $50/mo.
With the Galaxy S2 (their best phone and closest equivalent to iPhone) it’s $129 today, then $90/mo for two years locked into a 2yr contract.
This winds up being $2289 for two years, or ~$1145/yr.
Quite a racket.
I know a couple grand is probably nothing for you, and I could pay it, but I’m sticking with wi-fi, skype, and prepaid. It winds up being ~$200 for two years instead of $2000. I don’t need to play games online in public that bad.
January 28th, 2012
idk where you’re trying to go with this. But like I said..I’m getting the wifi version and it won’t cost me a dime to tether in 4G (better than the 3G version)
January 28th, 2012
Yeah im not going to bother with 3G. I got for my iPad then canceled. I dont need more monthly bills.
January 28th, 2012
I was just working it out because I was considering getting a smartphone and plan this year.
I like to save money wherever I can, and even though I can afford to pay more, I would rather invest savings which are that significant in something with a greater ROI.
It’s not worth the cost ($2289/2yrs) for me personally to have a 4G smartphone. I’d rather just pay ~$100/yr for my phone usage and utilize existing wi-fi, which is all I really need anyway.
January 31st, 2012
Shame about resistance, I really liked 2 & 3

That is my snake. The brown one was my ten year olds snake but it died last winter when we were on holidays. Snakes are cool.
