Robert Bowling creative strategist at Infinity Ward quits

March 26, 2012

Robert Bowling creative strategist for Infinity Ward resignsRobert Bowling, Creative Strategist of Call of Duty and Infinity Ward tweeted his resignation earlier today. Bowling has worked with the team for nearly six years and too many have become the face of the Call of Duty franchise.

Bowling has been involved in many of the interviews done around the franchise from the COD XP Event to chatting it up with the folks at Gametrailers regularly.

Earlier today Bowling simply tweeted:

Today, I resign from my position as Creative Strategist of Call of Duty, as a lead of Infinity Ward, and as an employee of Activision.

Shortly after Activision issued a brief statement:

We sincerely thank Robert for his many years of service. He’s been a trusted and valued member of the Infinity Ward team. We wish him all the best on his decision to pursue future opportunities.

Bowling’s resignation tweet does seem a bit odd as he does not talk about his future plans or even reflect upon his time at Activision.

So if the “Creative Strategist” has left Infinity Ward then MAYBE the next CoD will be slightly different than the last three.

  2. Roca.:

it means the next COD will be less creative…lol.

While COD keeps recycling and repackaging the same exact game (COD4), BF3 just got a huge update that brings more improvements, fixes, changes to the game than X360/PS3 COD games combined

Console owners have the ability to “rent a server” now.

  3. jojo29:

Yes finally CoD will now have more creative freedom and bring new features such as:
    - new fonts for the in gme text
    - the hud will now be red instead of the greenish/blue tint

In all reality CoD is finished, yeah it sold great this latest iteration, but something big also happened: the fans finlly woke up to being milked, i have seen more and more sorry ass excuses for fps CoD players swarm onto or at least asked about BF3….here at work at least 4-5 hardcore CoD playing BF hating come up and ask my PSN to play BF…
Thank goodness fornthese noobs, my score has never been higher…

Anywhoo, the point is, CoD wont be competitive for a awhile, they have so much to catch up on its ridiculous and8 the competition is only getting fiercer, heres what they would neednto do in order to begin to compete:
Graphics- Battlefield 3, Killzone 3, Crysis….thats a lot compete against
Vehicles: Battlefield3, Killzone has already dabbled in this (mechs) andnsad thing is, they cant just add a few vehicles…BF has jeeps, humvees, boats, Tanks, Amphibious Tanks, jets, cholpers, attack choppers…..
Bullet physics: Battlefield 3, Killzone and Crysis…
Free stat tracking : CoD Elite is justbplain stupid….battlelog makes it look even dumber….

Thats A LOT to add…and thats not including what they have to compete again the aforementioned games expansions or sequels..

“Console owners have the ability to “rent a server” now.”

Cue console owners crying that these servers should also be free to them. Entitled bitches.

  6. ncaissie:

    You have issues Phranc.

  7. ncaissie:

Are you gay? You seem to like it in the ass. I bet you’re a closet xbot aren’t you?

  8. phranctoast:

“Are you gay? You seem to like it in the ass.”

Is that the way you proposition all men Ncaissie or just ones as handsome as me :)

As someone who co owned a server rental company, I think it’s safe to say my opinion runs stronger than some others who think nothing costs money.

“Is that the way you proposition all men Ncaissie”

That, or slapping our asses. ;)

  10. phranctoast:

    “That, or slapping our asses.”

LMAO at the inside joke…uhhhh no pun intended.

  11. ncaissie:

Don’t call me a bitch and and not expect a retaliate.

“Are you gay? You seem to like it in the ass. I bet you’re a closet xbot aren’t you?”

    Bit random.

  13. ncaissie:

So is calling us entitled bitches.

  14. Roca.:

The ‘rent a server’ feature doesn’t mean that all EA (free) servers will go away. The game will remain the same with thousands of dedicated servers available for all users.

but buy renting your own server, you tweak the game any way you want.

    for example, you can…
    -remove jets
-have RPGs do less damage than Knifes
-Jump from Rush Mode, to Conquest, or Team Deathmatch without exiting the lobby

“Your server, your rules. Create a personal gaming experience by renting your own server.
Starting today, you can rent your own Battlefield 3 server on PS3! This option is available from the “RENT A SERVER” menu and gives you a lot of exciting new options that the community has been asking for.

Having your own server gives you the power to create your personal gaming experience. You can either tweak every setting or choose a preset configuration and publish your server in just a few seconds.

What maps and modes do you want to play? Do you want to show the mini map or not? Do you want to turn off HUD elements and tweak respawn times and tickets?”

  15. ncaissie:

It does sound cool. But no one is saying it should be free.

  16. Roca.:

“Don’t call me a bitch and and not expect a retaliate”

now I know why you like Kratos so much ;)

  17. oldschool1987:

“So is calling us entitled bitches.”

Majority of gamers are. I mean DEMANDING Bioware change the ending to Mass Effect 3!? How fucking entitled is that lol.

  18. ncaissie:

That’s one thing. But I’m not expecting everything free. I do expect to be able to sell my games ( which I just put 26 games aside to resell) and have the option to buy used. I really don’t care if people don’t like the ending to me3. They are mostly Xbox gamers anyway. I have enough great games to play “on my consol” and don’t expect anything free.

  19. ncaissie:

    Time to update my gravitar.
