After several rumors that reported the Xbox 360 would get a Blu-Ray drive eventually, Microsoft is trying to put that notion to rest. HD-DVD lost the high-def disc format war to Blu-Ray and the HD-DVD drive for the Xbox 360 has been discontinued; existing stock will be sold until the drives are gone. Microsoft played the HD-DVD field with Toshiba and lost. There have been lots of rumors that Microsoft would adopt Blu-Ray for the Xbox 360; while that is still not certain, it just got a little more concrete poured in it. The CEO of the company, Steve Ballmer announced at the MIX08 conference that his company will indeed be working with Blu-Ray.

If you still haven’t purchased a Xbox 360 but were thinking about it, you might want to hold off just a little bit longer. It seems that it’s almost “official” that Microsoft will be replacing the 20GB Xbox 360 with a 60GB version. The possibility of a Blu-Ray drive is not out of the question either.
