If you haven’t been keeping an eye on the FPS genre recently, you have been missing some serious advances in shooters for both the PS3 and the 360. Is there any chance that these gorgeously killer FPS titles could swing gamers from one console to the other?

It really just wouldn’t be fair to the hordes of Wii fanboys who harass the comment sections of my work here at Gamer to let the coals cool for too long before giving the fire a helpful poke in the right direction, so to that end, here’s another legitimate media entity that thinks the Wii might not be all rainbows and butterflies: Forbes thinks that the Nintendo Wii could suffer from not offering Grand Theft Auto IV, one of the best-rated and most anticipated games to date.

The main defense presented by Nintendo and Wii fanatics is that the Wii provides a completely different style of gaming, something that appeals to those looking for something non-standard or those who are considered “casual gamers.” Dan Houser, one of the top execs at Rockstar Games, thinks that “casual gaming” is a copout when there is real innovation to be made.

One of the largest deciding factors that should be considered in the purchase of a game console is the quality of the games that have been made for it. Though many people believe that the Xbox 360 has the best collection of games, a recent study showed that the PS3 has more good games than any console now on the market.

With flocks of gamers of all sizes, shapes and ages storming local game retail locations for copies of Grand Theft Auto 4, the weight of the current U.S. economic recession probably is alleviated, at least while gamers run around Liberty city, blasting hapless bystanders and jacking fast cars. However, the fact of the matter is the U.S. economy is in a recession, and the CEO of Activision, among others, believes that console prices will have to drop if manufacturers want to keep moving hardware.

It is a dark time we gamers live in; witch hunters like Jack Thompson and the rest of the media try to keep us down at every turn, politicians search daily for ways to squash the creativity of game developers, and parents are apparently too stupid to recognize that their own faulty parenting, not games, are the cause of their kids’ corruption. There is, however, a light at the end of the tunnel…at some point they’ll all be dead, and then only gamers will be left in their stead!

Ah, Blockbuster, love of our early days as budding gamers, how we adored thee! But how tragic and sorrowful your fall from grace has been. Blockbuster is trying desperately to get gamers to fall in love with it again, this time by not only debuting hot new release games like Grand Theft Auto 4 and Mario Kart on the new release wall, but also by jumping into the retail biz and selling hardware to gamers.

Ok, so at this point of the weekend, you are most likely trying to abstain from wetting yourself in anticipation of the Iron Man movie and game, right? No? Well another small title is hitting this week by the name of Grand Theft Auto 4, and the critics agree: GTA IV looks better on the PS3 than it does on the 360.

With the government moving to digital broadcast and offering those lovely little coupons, some might think that progress is pushing the adoption of HD sets on consumers; however, it would appear HD TV manufacturers should be giving a pretty lengthy shout-out to PS3 and Xbox 360 manufacturers Sony and Microsoft, because 18% of the HD sets sold in the last year were to gamers who wanted to take full advantage of their next-gen consoles.

You might laugh off the whole concept of violent Wii titles, but it isn’t out of the question. As for the EU, it is calling for an industry-designed code for what is acceptable to depict in video games and what could be damaging to impressionable youth. I don’t see what the problem is what that…after all, you can’t honestly expect parents to actually monitor their kids’ activities and video games, can you?
