We’ve already seen Microsoft cut the price of the 20Gb Xbox 360 Pro to make way for the 60Gb Pro, but ever since then there has been speculation about further price cuts on the way, with all SKUs potentially seeing price reductions. The latest rumour to add to mix is that the new lower-priced Arcade pack could come bundled with a Wii Remote style motion-sensing controller.

Anyone who was in any doubt as to the influence the Nintendo Wii has had on this generation needs look no further than what is currently happening to the Xbox 360. The Microsoft console has always been regarded as the domain of the hardcore but I’m afraid it’s now being pushed as a console for the more casual gamers amongst us.

There seems to be tons of rumors flying around the net lately, we broke one yesterday about Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) picking up the publishing rights for Ghostbusters video game and making it exclusive for the PS3. Today we decided to analyze two other rumors that have made the rounds: Halo 3 and Little Big Planet coming to the PC.

This generation console war is taking a decidedly bizarre twist, where there are two polar opposite sets of gamers being fought over. On the one hand we have the Wii, dominating sales, and soaking up the majority of the casual gamers there are in the world. On the other hand we have the PS3 and Xbox 360, technically superior consoles which appeal to the more hardcore and committed element. But the two worlds could soon collide.

The Greatest Hits, or Platinum range, of best-selling re-released games has become a mainstay of gaming since Sony introduced it with the original Playstation console in 1997. Now, the Playstation 3 is getting its first Greatest Hits releases in the US and Europe, with Japan having already obtained the budget range.

Electronic Arts just released a couple of brand-spankin’ new trailers for its highly anticipated first-person shooter, Battlefield: Bad Company. Why does this matter? Oh, maybe ’cause the ads blatantly copy from competing games. They’re also pretty funny.

Wii Fit has sold massively in Japan since its release in December 2007, shifting over a million units and helping keep the Nintendo Wii at the top of the games hardware charts. It recently launched in Europe, and is already sold out in many high street retailers. Next, it’s the turn of the U.S. to get the game, and retailers are looking at intriguing new ways to market the game/lifestyle device.

With flocks of gamers of all sizes, shapes and ages storming local game retail locations for copies of Grand Theft Auto 4, the weight of the current U.S. economic recession probably is alleviated, at least while gamers run around Liberty city, blasting hapless bystanders and jacking fast cars. However, the fact of the matter is the U.S. economy is in a recession, and the CEO of Activision, among others, believes that console prices will have to drop if manufacturers want to keep moving hardware.

Ah, Blockbuster, love of our early days as budding gamers, how we adored thee! But how tragic and sorrowful your fall from grace has been. Blockbuster is trying desperately to get gamers to fall in love with it again, this time by not only debuting hot new release games like Grand Theft Auto 4 and Mario Kart on the new release wall, but also by jumping into the retail biz and selling hardware to gamers.
