Its been a tough year for Sony in 2011, with the tsunami hitting Japan earlier this year followed by the devastating floods in Thailand and the rise of the yen, to what many have called “far beyond what is tolerable.” To exasperate the matter, the dollar took a sharp dive in 2011. With Kaz Hirai stepping up as the new CEO, all eyes are on him now to turn things around.

Media Create has released some sales data ahead of its regularly scheduled report. The firm revealed that the Vita sold approximately 65 percent of its launch stock.

Sony recently launched the PlayStation Vita in Japan and according to reports it appears that initial shipment is already sold out. The company decided to raise its initial launch supply to 700k due to strong demand for the device.

As the biggest shopping day of the year wrapped up in the US last month, according to analysts initial estimates put software sales at $1.5 billion for November. Some describe Black Friday as mass psychology at work, hindering a person’s ability to think rationally as the notion of scarcity is used to create artificial demand.

Earlier today Microsoft announced that the Xbox 360 saw its biggest sales week during Black Friday in the US. This is big news for the console considering its in its seventh year out on the market.

Two heavy hitting titles released this month and the initial sales numbers are impressive. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 enjoyed the biggest launch day sales ever and Uncharted 3 is now the third fastest selling PS3 exclusive.

The console race has been heating up and it appears that sales for Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo have been swinging back and forth every year. This year it appears that Sony is winning the race in two territories while Microsoft is taking the gold in one territory.
