After the release of the PS3 Slim and the price cut which accompanied it, and the Xbox 360 price cut as well, Nintendo had little choice but to act, and act fast. So from Sunday, Sept. 27, the Wii will cost $199 in the States, and supposedly will have its price cut by a similar figure in other territories as well.

But things are starting to slow down in the Nintendo camp, and the price cuts for both the PS3 and Xbox 360 and slimline redesign of the PS3 mean it has to act, and fast. August NPD Sales - PS2 sales decline, Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, DS & PSP all up July was a slow month in gaming with sales dropping for the past five months. However, August looks to be a new month with some indication of the holiday season finally creeping upon us. Almost all of the platforms increased in August from July, with the PS3 taking an exceptional leap. Unfortunately, the legendary PS2 continues its downward spiral.

Can the PS3 Slim overcome the Xbox 360 and Wii?A lot of overblown nonsense has been written about the PS3 Slim over the last few days. After all, this is just a new iteration of an existing console which is almost exactly the same as its nearest predecessor. However, I’ll concede that the mostly positive talk of the PS3 Slim has me wondering if it can actually achieve what Sony wants it to – kicking a hole in sales of the Wii and Xbox 360.
